About Red Rabbit Advocacy
Red Rabbit Advocacy is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating innovative solutions for homelessness. Our mission is to address the complexities of homelessness through advocacy, outreach, housing navigation, court and diversion program advocacy, and collaborative community-building efforts. Red Rabbit believes in an inclusive, supportive approach to empower and uplift individuals affected by homelessness and advocates for alternative community solutions.
Board of Directors
RED RABBIT ENTERPRISES shall have a board of directors consisting of at least three (3) and no more than fifteen (15) directors. Within these limits, the board may increase or decrease the number of directors serving on the board, including for the purpose of staggering the terms of directors.
Board Member Duties and Responsibilities
As a Board Member of Red Rabbit Advocacy, your role is essential to our mission and success. Here are the primary duties and responsibilities expected of board members.
Strategic Oversight: Provide strategic direction for the organization, setting clear goals and priorities to further our mission of creating sustainable housing solutions and alternative community models.
Financial Stewardship: Oversee the organization’s finances to ensure sustainability, transparency, and ethical allocation of resources. This includes approving budgets, evaluating financial reports, and assisting with fundraising initiatives.
Advocacy and Outreach: Actively promote Red Rabbit Advocacy’s mission in the community. This may involve networking with stakeholders, representing the organization at public events, and forming partnerships with other community organizations and government entities.
Knowledge of Homelessness Issues: Maintain a foundational understanding of homelessness, including factors contributing to homelessness, effective intervention strategies, legal implications, and community-based solutions.
Governance and Policy Setting: Establish and review policies and procedures to ensure they align with the organization’s mission, values, and operational needs. This includes setting policies regarding programs, ethics, legal compliance, and board governance.
Program Evaluation: Regularly assess and evaluate Red Rabbit’s programs, including our Transitional Housing Support and Empowerment Program, to ensure they meet the needs of our clients and align with our mission.
Board Meetings Participation: Attend and participate actively in scheduled board meetings (frequency is quarterly) to stay informed on organizational activities, make decisions, and contribute insights for ongoing projects and initiatives.
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of Homelessness: Demonstrated understanding of homelessness issues, affordable housing challenges, mental health and substance abuse treatment, or housing policies or a willingness to learn.
- Commitment to Advocacy: A dedication to advocating for individuals experiencing homelessness or other systematic impacts on marginalized communities.
- Professional Expertise: Skills in areas like finance, law, social services, community development, property management, or nonprofit management are valuable.
- Collaborative Mindset: Ability to work effectively as part of a team, offer constructive feedback, and communicate with diverse stakeholders.
Powers of the Board
- Policy and Decision-Making: The board has the authority to set organizational policies, approve budgets, and make decisions that shape Red Rabbit’s strategic direction.
- Oversight of Leadership: The board provides oversight and guidance to the Executive Director, ensuring the organization fulfills its mission and achieves measurable impact.
- Fundraising and Resource Development: Board members may be involved in fundraising efforts, helping to secure grants, donations, and community support to sustain and grow our programs.
- Evaluation of Organizational Health: The board regularly reviews the organization’s performance, ensuring that it maintains operational health and compliance with legal and ethical standards.
